What is Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness about?
We are watching a picture of the rescue of America Chavez, a young teenage girl from the clutches of a huge octopus. Doctor Strange comes to the aid of a beautiful lady along with Wong. During an octopus attack on a girl, she experiences a terrible fright and can now open the doors to a parallel universe. In order to help a young girl, Doctor Strange embarks on a journey through the multiverse in order to save the young individual from the evil power of a giant animal.
The meaning of Doctor Strange: In thСe Multiverse of Madness
During an open opportunity for the main character of Doctor Strange to get to the Vishanti book, an obstacle appears on the way in the form of a magical demon that pursued not only the guy, but also the young lady – America Chavez. The protagonist makes a deliberate decision and is going to save a young lady from the clutches of a huge octopus, as well as take away the already existing forces of America with the help of murder. In the process of fighting the demon, Doctor Strange was mortally wounded. America Chavez, in turn, decides to get to the Vishanti book alone, but falls into the clutches of a demon and opens a new portal to another world in the form of a star. Barely breathing Doctor Strange tries to cut off the ribbons of the octopus and dies as a result, and America Chavez, in turn, goes to Earth-616 with the body of the protagonist.
After arriving in a new land, the doctor decides to attend the wedding of his ex-girlfriend Christina Palmer. After the wedding ceremony, a huge octopus will attack New York and the excellent duo of Doctor Strange and Wong are doing their best to save the girl and kill the villain. The protagonist at this moment recognizes in the body of Chavez the same girl from the nightmare that became a memory for him. America Chavez tried to explain to the doctor that she has a certain power that monsters are after and that is why she has a unique ability to move to different multiverses.
Doctor Strange decides to turn to Wanda Maximoff for help, and the magician tells the main character that Chavez is his ally and informs the doctor of her location. A little later, the viewer learns that Chavez was hunted by Wanda herself and the monsters that pursued America – her handiwork.
Wanda wanted in every possible way to master the powers of America Chavez in order to be able to move to another universe, where she had previously lived with her stepchildren. The girl admitted that she often uses the book of the damned called Darkhold.
Doctor Strange does not give America Chavez to this woman and the witch has to attack a large fortress in Kamar-Taj alone. With the help of her own powers, she managed to break through the security and come face to face with the main characters of the film. When the moment becomes more critical than expected, America Chavez decides to open the portal and, together with Doctor Strange, she managed to escape.
From another universe, Doctor Strange and America Chavez manage to relocate to New York. There, the girl tells the doctor about her past and says that for the first time she managed to open a new portal in her childhood and her parents accidentally got into it. It was after this incident that the girl is sure that her relatives died, but the doctor claims that they were simply lost in the boundless universe.
The main characters decide to go in search of a doctor and find only a monument erected in his honor. Mordo begins his monologue and tells the doctor that this is the book of the cursed Darkhold. He said that only the owners of the book own this book.
Explanation of the ending of Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness
Is Scarlet Witch alive?
In the WandaVision series, the Scarlet Witch took possession of the book of the god Chthon – the Darkhold. In Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness, she wanted to use it to reunite with her sons – albeit alternate ones. However, the Darkhold twists people’s minds, which is why Wanda Maximoff has become incredibly cruel. An evil version of Stephen Strange proved that experiments on the book could lead to the destruction of universes.
Wanda wanted to take away America Chavez’s (Sochil Gomez) ability to move around the multiverse so she could be close to the children and, if necessary, move into different dimensions. To achieve what she wanted, Scarlet Witch even moved into another Wanda and killed almost all the members of the Illuminati: Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Mister Fantastic (John Krasinski), Captain Carter (Haley Atwell), Captain Marvel (Lashana Lynch) and Black Bolt (Anson Mount, the performer of the same role in the TV series “Supermen”). Only Karl Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) survived. If Wanda had managed to take Chavez’s powers, she would have killed her too.
Strange and America Chavez persuade Scarlet Witch to stop. Chavez, during the battle with Wanda in the Darkhold temple, sends the sorceress to another dimension. There, the Scarlet Witch sees how her sons are afraid of her, and realizes that she made a mistake. The heroine destroys all the Darkholds of the multiverse so that the book does not harm anyone else, destroys the Temple and disappears under the rubble.
Scarlet Witch is a powerful heroine, so it is unlikely that she died. During the destruction of the temple, Wanda could use a protective spell and hide in an unknown direction. Marvel Studios is rumored to be making a Scarlet Witch movie , and the heroine could play a major role in a potential Young Avengers movie with her sons Billy and Tommy as superheroes Wiccan and Speed .
Elizabeth Olsen is pleased with the conclusion of the Scarlet Witch storyline in Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness, but after a short break, she would like to return to the role of Wanda Maximoff. The arrival of Professor X in the MCU has hinted at the entry of the X-Men – and Olsen has admitted she’s not averse to starring in a possible X-Men film. The actress hopes to one day utter Scarlet Witch’s iconic line “No more mutants” from the M-Day comics, with which Wanda deprived almost all mutants of superpowers.
Elizabeth Olsen has hinted that Scarlet Witch has many adventures ahead of her. According to the actress, there are many options for the plots of potential pictures with Wanda:
“It’s been an eight year journey and I hope we move on to something exciting. There are several different versions of what could have happened at the end of this film [in the temple destruction scene]. I want to hear what the fans who know her best would like to see next from her.”
The head of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige is unlikely to miss the opportunity to continue the amazing and controversial story of Wanda Maximoff. In potential new films and TV shows, Scarlet Witch will face the consequences of her actions under the influence of Darkcloud. She has to deal with her powers and emotional problems. Maybe Wanda will find a way to reunite with her Billy and Tommy.
Why Doctor Strange has a third eye
Doctor Strange in the battle with the Scarlet Witch had to turn to the magic of the Darkhold. Stephen Strange from the main (616) reality of the Marvel Cinematic Universe moved into the body of Strange, who died at the beginning of the film – probably Defender Strange – and helped Chavez and Wong (Benedict Wong) defeat Wanda. In the final, it was shown that because of the book, Strange had a third eye – like the evil Strange with the Darkhold.
The third eye is something like the Eye of Agamotto. Talisman, the owner of which is able to see the truth. In the Marvel comics, Doctor Strange used the third eye for good deeds. In the film, he used the magic of the Darkhold to save Chavez. This means that in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the third eye will make Strange a more powerful, but kind sorcerer. However, the association with the three-eyed Dark Strange may hint that in a potential Doctor Strange 3, Stephen will have to deal with the grim consequences of contact with the Darkhold.
Analysis of the scenes after the credits of the film “Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness”
Scene One: Meet Charlize Theron’s Witch Clea
In the first post-credits scene, Doctor Strange encounters a mysterious character in a purple suit, played by Charlize Theron, while walking around New York. The stranger tells Strange that he caused the conjugation of worlds, and then opens a portal, presumably to the Dark Dimension, offering the magician to fix the situation together. Doctor Strange goes on a new adventure with the heroine – perhaps this will become the plot of Doctor Strange 3 or will be shown in other Marvel projects.
Theron played the sorceress Clea. In the Marvel comics, she appears as the daughter of the prince of the Dark Dimension – Orini and the sorceress of the Foltein race – Umar. Strange and Clea become partners in the comics. Moreover, the characters fall in love and get married. Since Strange and Christina Palmer (Rachel McAdams) parted ways in the sequel, there are no obstacles for a new novel in the third part for Stephen.
Scene 2: Hello Evil Dead
In the second scene after the credits, a pizza seller in the form of balls, played by Bruce Campbell, lit up. Doctor Strange soon after arriving on Earth-838 – where the Illuminati came from – had a fight with the seller and bewitched the poor fellow, forcing him to beat himself. In the post-credits scene, the spell broke. This is a joke reference to a similar scene from Evil Dead 2 where Ash Williams (Campbell) fights with his arm. The horror film was directed by Sam Raimi, the director of Doctor Strange 2.
Answers to questions after the movie “Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness”
Is there a connection to “What if…?”
Prior to the release of Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness, there was a theory that some of the characters would come from the What If…? animated series. However, the dark Strange turned out to be not the Supreme Doctor Strange – he most likely still guards Erik Killmonger and Arnim Zola locked in the sphere.
With Captain Carter, it’s less obvious. But this is hardly Peggy Carter from the animated series. In reality, Carter’s “What if…?” there is “S.H.I.E.L.D.” and the Avengers, but no Illuminati. And after the events of season 1 “What if …?” Carter would most likely rejoin the Guardians of the Multiverse.
Zombie Strange definitely didn’t come from What If…?. This is the usual Strange in the dead body of the alternative.
Mister Fantastic and Professor X will be back?
Scarlet Witch destroyed the Illuminati, so Mister Fantastic and Professor X from Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness will not be returning. However, it is quite possible to expect the appearance of alternative versions of these and other Marvel heroes. Still, in the Loki series, “The One Who Remains” (Jonathan Majors) died, but in the film “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania” (premiere on February 17, 2023) there will be his more evil version – Kang the Conqueror.
Marvel Studios is about to make a Fantastic Four movie. Now the project is looking for a director – initially the place was for the creator of the “home” Spider-Man trilogy, Jon Watts, but he left the project . It is not yet known if the role of Reed Richards will remain with John Krasinski. The studio also plans films with X-Men. Maybe there will be superhumans / nonhumans – Black Bolt is one of them. Although the entry of this race into the main world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unlikely, MCU Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) will not be a superhuman – judging by the promo of the Ms. Marvel series (premiering June 8).
What will happen to America Chavez
America Chavez remained on Earth-616 and began training at Kamar-Taj. In future Marvel projects, the superheroine will most likely improve her superpowers, learn magic tricks and try to find her mothers, whom she accidentally sent into an unknown reality as a child. America could also join the Young Avengers team.
Where did Vision go?
The Vision (Paul Bettany), whom Wanda said goodbye to in WandaVision, was not shown in Doctor Strange: Into the Multiverse of Madness. The Vision didn’t even exist with Wanda in reality 838. It’s possible that the Visions really don’t exist in many realities – or Wanda has only focused on finding the children. Elizabeth Olsen herself cryptically commented on the Vision’s absence:
“We liked that it [the absence of the Vision] remained a mystery. For some reason, he is not in her world . I always saw her as a home Wanda. They got divorced. They are separated. She doesn’t wear a wedding ring for some reason. We liked that she was alone. The idea is that children are the most important thing in a mother’s life.”
In reality, 616 – the main one for the Marvel Cinematic Universe – remained the white Vision. Scarlet Witch might cross paths with him.
