Olivia Benson and Elliott Stabler have been official partners in the series “Law & Order: Special Victims” for over 12 years. They began starring in the series in 1999. Viewers watched the partnership of their favorite characters in many scenes, and this relationship was very inspiring for them. Throughout the TV series, the writers teased fans with the relationship of Olivia and Elliot.
The Law & Order franchise depicts the horrific crimes and moral complexities of the American criminal justice system. But it also has a lot of good old-fashioned and dramatic relationships. A complex interpersonal dynamic is shown between Olivia and Elliot. But their ever-present mutual warmth has gradually become more frustrating to fans than interesting.
Do Olivia and Elliot sleep together in Law & Order: Special Victims?
Throughout “Law & Order,” Olivia has many love affairs, but none of them compare to the spark that ran between her and Elliott. The duo’s chemistry is shown so perfectly that viewers assumed they would end up together after all. The partners respected each other’s boundaries, but it was interesting to watch. Olivia and Elliot disappointed viewers because fans never got to see them in the same bed. Although the partners showed concern for each other.
Elliot is shown as a married man (his wife is Cathy), father of four children. But his dedication to his job of investigating violent crimes did not have a very positive effect on his family relationship. Olivia, on the other hand, tried her best to build a full-fledged personal life, but for the same reasons she was not succeeding. In the first episodes of the series, her partnership with Elliot seemed easy and comfortable.
Olivia was once a victim of rape, so she had a hard time in her personal life, but she tried wholeheartedly to create the perfect relationship. Olivia’s love series life began with a careless one-night stand with her department colleague, Detective Brian Cassidy. They continued to date in seasons 1, 14, and 15. Their connection ended after Brian left the police department.
Olivia’s romantic relationship.
Fans wanted to see something serious specifically between Olivia and Elliot, but the executive producers constructed the storylines on their own. After the female detective’s non-serious romance with Brian Cassidy, she briefly became the girlfriend of reporter Nick Ganzner. Later, in season 5, she rejected Andy Akerson’s advances because of his questionable police tactics.
In Season 9 of Law & Order: Special Victims, Olivia wanted to keep her new relationship a secret, but mid-season it was revealed that she was dating journalist Kurt Moss. But again, something didn’t work out. Their connection proved to be short-lived. In season 13, Benson had a brief romance with executive director David Haden. They shared common goals and hoped for a lasting relationship. Then (during seasons 17 and 18) Benson dated Ed Tucker. But she ended her relationship with him after he retired.
So, over the course of 12 seasons, Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler never bonded, and the actor who played Elliot later explained that the writers didn’t even plan for this plot development due to the fact that the character was married.
